Dear Friends of the Refuge,
I recently spoke on the phone with "Hermana Anita," our dear friend, schoolmaster, and wife of Director Victor. We talked about the goals that had been accomplished in 2013 and the goals for 2014. At the end of the conversation, I asked her if she could tell a difference from the support we have been providing since the start of the 501(c)3 foundation. Her response was resounding, "OH YES!

Thank you to the Peruvian Club of Florida!
Many thanks to The Peruvian Club of Florida who donated over $6000 to the Refuge of Hope from proceeds generated from their Annual Charity Gala in Miami, Florida. The gala was a wonderful event and included dinner, live music, and presentations of traditional dances from different regions of Peru.
Refugio de Esperanza celebrates 25 years!
Refugio de Esperanza ("Refuge of Hope" in Spanish) just finished off a week of celebrations to mark the 25th anniversary of the school. The celebration week included a day of sports and competitions, a parade through the city, an awards ceremony and a reunion with former students. Since the humble beginnings in 1988 (beginning with only a handful of students and little to no resources), the school has grown to support hundreds of children.
A Big Thank You, Volunteers!
Many thanks to recent volunteers from Ad Fontes Academy in Centerville, Virginia, who traveled to Refugio de Esperanza June 11-18, and poured their time, money, and plenty of sweat for a week of labor in the jungle heat.

Christmas coupons
The holidays are a perfect time to make a donation in honor of a co-worker, friend or family member. The Refuge of Hope Christmas Coupons provide an opportunity to give something that is long-lasting and meaningful for someone in need. Last December, we sold coupons that totaled over 200 chickens, 350 trees, and enough money to build a brand-new water well on campus. This year the Refuge of Hope's greatest needs are for books, school supplies, and tools.
New website!
Last May I was able to attend the New England Give Camp. During the camp volunteers dedicated one weekend of time, as well as their developing and design skills, to improve online presentations for non-profit organisations. When I arrived in Boston for the Give Camp, I anticipated that we would just tweak the existing Refuge of Hope website, which by the way was built during the previous year’s Give Camp under the lead of Raymond Plante.

Silver Anniversary Celebration
I am happy to pass along a pre-announcement and invitation from David Eschenbach, who is a long time friend and volunteer of El Refugio. During the summer of 2012, El Refugio de Esperanza will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in Pucallpa, Peru, which has been supported for the past 3 years in part by the U.S. non-profit foundation, "The Refuge of Hope".
